Yin, according to ancient Chinese philosophy means moon, open, expansive, cold, calm and present-moment-awareness. Hence Yin Yoga is a slow-mindful style of yoga, incorporating principles of traditional Chinese medicine. Asanas (postures) are held for longer periods of time. This enables the participant to ‘dive deep’ into any discomfort – bodily or emotionally, releasing stored up tension and stress.

In a class, you will be guided to “move towards your edge” YET practice with Ahimsa = nonviolence. Through holding the postures for 3-5 minutes, you will get to feel and respect our limitations. We practice the
art of being in the moment – noticing fluctuations in body, heart and mind. Both in the internal and external, you will begin to notice the transient nature of your experience.

As mentioned, Yin Yoga is slower, more passive, internal and postures held for longer. Strengthening and stretching connective tissue that runs throughout the body. Paying special attention to the ligaments around the
joints. Over time this type of movement creates suppleness and flexibility leading to healthy backs, knees and ankles.
